Our Services
Historic Stone Restoration.
Historic stonework and traditional building methods have stood the test of time. However, they are not able to withstand modern, quick and harsh treatments such as high pressure cleaning or acid cleaning.

High temperature together with a very gentle pressure preserves softer materials such as sandstone and lime mortar. This allows the true beauty of the building fabric to shine through once more. This is often prescribed by architects under the brand name "DOFF Cleaning".

Stone Clean Scotland are experts in this field. Helping clients achieve the desired effect. From completely clean, to a natural patina on the stone. Or perhaps a sympathetic blend, exhibiting both age and care.
Whether it is a refurbishment of the old, or a brand new construction. Stone Clean Scotland work to bring it to its finest. Working to remove contaminants on the surface of stone, brick, and synthetic cladding. Providing insight for architects and builders

Brickwork and delicate pointing are treated with utmost care. Employing techniques that will not cause damage or tarnishing.

Brand new stone work can be cleaned with sympathetic techniques, returning its natural luster.

Polycarbonate, wood, metal and many more forms of cladding can be cleaned or restored to the designer's original specification.

Graffiti Removal
Unsolicited Graffiti is a blight on any building. It causes distress to residents, denigrates reputable areas and, untreated, lasts for many decades.

Removing graffiti carefully, without damaging the underlying substrate takes great care and skill.

Stone Clean Scotland will assess the substrate, type of paint or ink used and create a bespoke action plan for its removal.

Hard to reach areas can be taken into account and safely accessed with a variety of methods.

Historic buildings, delicate harling, wood, metal and synthetic surfaces can all be cleaned appropriately. Leaving no trace of paint or ink.
Masonry Paint is a common sight on many buildings. But is it good for the underlying substrate?

Generally speaking all forms of masonry paint will impede water evaporation. Trapping water in the stone, causing dissolution. Perhaps you are on this page because of that very reason?

Remove the paint and allow stone to breathe. This maintains porous stone in the long term.
Yet how best to remove paint?
Stone Clean Scotland will perform a detailed assessment of each and every area where paint must be removed. Then a method of most effective, and safe removal will be presented to the client.
There are no guesses. Only careful judgement to return a natural and sustainable finish.

Internal Stone Restoration
What can be restored externally, can be replicated internally.

But surely cleaning stone with steam in an internal setting is out of the question?

With state of the art extraction equipment, all steam and waste water is safely contained and removed to outside the building.
This leaves only restored stone work, often with a very unique and more gentle patina than externally exposed stone.
Original carving and masonry cutting work is left untouched by the elements. After careful cleaning and restoration, these features shine like the day they were cut.
Mineral or salination staining can blight the pure finish of stonework.

Common causes such as water, copper, iron and other forms of chemical staining need not be permanent.

Stone Clean Scotland can work with the problem. Removing or lessening staining till it no longer catches the eye.

Do not settle for guesswork in this area. Often there is only one opportunity to properly remove the staining. As incorrect chemical knowledge can make such staining permanent.
It may be the case that not even your stonemason is aware of the myriad of chemical options that are available to remove staining and salination from stonework. At Stone Clean Scotland, we work with chemists and conservationists to provide a truly scientific and delicate solution.

Why not consider our opinion in tandem with those from masonry and construction backgrounds?
We may be able to bring considerable chemical knowledge to the table. Thus helping you make an informed decision. We always supply test areas so you can see the final result.
